Circus Wild Animal Trainer Helps the SPCA?

No, you didn't read that wrong. It seems that a kind-hearted member of our circus community has put differences to one side - perhaps in the spirit of this festive season - and come to the aid of one its staunchest opponents. However, fear not. This is not some naive soul won over by "soft" animal rights dogma, as we have seen happen to often in the zoo fraternity. Casey, our man in South Africa, recognized that by donating animal food to this "non-profit" organization he had some say over where his hard-earned money would go.

SPCA International are a global organization that go under the guise of being "animal welfare" orientated rather than rights, but much like the similarly named RSPCA in the UK, the group is heavily involved in political activities and oppose certain legal animal professions such as animal circuses. Unlike various other legitimate animal welfare charities, such as SSPCA, PDSA, The Blue
Cross, AIA, Eco Etho Research and Education Centre, and the various animal rescue shelters that have a no-kill policy, the SPCA ignores the independent scientific research that establishes a well-run animal circus is no more guilty of animal cruelty than any other environment that keeps animals in captivity. Yet, like most animal rights groups and pseudo-animal welfare groups, the SPCA seems to know that the circus issue is "sexy" and get them the most attention, which then provides more funds. The group appears to be guilty of the same criticism as its obvious counterparts. In 2011 "Charity Watch" graded the SPCA "F" for "money mismanagement" (Charity Rating Guide and Watchdog Report, Volume Number 59, December 2011) and in June 2012 a report by CNN concluded that "[SPCA] raised close to $27 million to help animals worldwide spent nearly all of that money on fund-raising expenses paid to a direct-mail company."

In line with CNN and Charity Watch's findings, it would appear that the SPCA have enough money to wage campaigns and pay salaries, but not to feed the animals in their care:
